Florin,

there is no secret. just go to mt. hood or coast range and look until you find them. it takes years to find good spots. i like white chanterells the best, yellow are to easy to find IMHO, and if it's later in the year to soggy.

and like halle says, don't tell anybody, even your closest friends about where they are, word gets around....

Florin,

Depending on the year Chanterelles can nearly be found everywhere in western Oregon. The key is to find your spots and not to tell anyone! =) Basically what I look for are river valleys and north to north east facing slopes in second growth forest. In my experience Chanterelles don't like old growth as much. I have had luck finding them in both the coast range and the Mt. Hood National Forest. Once the first rain hits in early September and the temperatures start to drop the Chanterelles begin to pop. I'm sure that they're starting to appear but I haven't been out foraging yet. Also, be careful picking when deer hunting season starts. I tend to whistle loudly these days when I mushroom hunt.

Happy hunting!

Hi,
I used to do a lot of chantrelle picking in my original country, Romania, years ago. If you can share some "secrets" about places where these mashrooms grow, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,
